Reading Challenge Homework

Your main homework this year is to read at least 60 minutes per week.  This could be 20 mins, 3 times a week or one big session.

At least once every half term, you are expected to complete a reading challenge of your choice about a book that you are reading outside of class.

Your teacher will ask you to bring in evidence of your completed challenge to share with the rest of the class on a specific date.

Interview:

Write an imaginary interview with one of the main characters or the author of your book.

Matchbook Summaries:

Create a collection of matchbook chapter summaries.

Reading Blog:

Set up a reading blog to share your thoughts and feelings about what you’re reading.

Eye, Eye:

Fill an A4 piece of paper with a drawing of one character’s eye and what they can see (reflected in their eye).

Dramatic Monologue:

Write a dramatic monologue for one of the main characters. You could perform this in class.

Film Pitch:

Write a pitch as the author, persuading a Hollywood studio to turn your book into a film.

New Book Cover:

Design a new book cover with your own tagline and blurb.

Letter:

Write a letter to the author giving your response to the book and asking any questions you may have. You might get a reply!

Drawing:

Draw a picture of a main character annotated with key quotations that describe them.  

Script:

Turn a section of your book into a short play script or script for a TV show.  

Collage:

Create a collage about your book using both images and words.

Song:

Write a song about your book. You could perform this in class.

Quiz Time:

Create a quiz based on your book that would test how well someone has read it.

Animation:

Create a stop frame animation about your book using a app like ‘Stop Motion Studio’

Map:

Draw and label a map of the main setting(s).

Poetry Challenge:

Write a poem inspired by characters or events in the book.

Flow Diagram:

Draw a flow diagram of the plot.

Sculpture:

Create a sculpture in response to your book.

PowToon or Prezi:

Create a digital book report using PowToon or Prezi.

News Report:

Write a news report about a key event in your book.

Book Review:

Write a book review for the SBL reading blog or Goodreads.com.

Portrait Painting:

Paint a portrait of a main character.

Comic Strip:

Draw a comic strip for part of the book.

Speech:

Write a persuasive speech convincing your class to read your chosen book.

Social Media:

Mock up a Facebook or Twitter page for one of the main characters.
